How to Improve Concentration in the Classroom
You can zero in on your daily tasks in the classroom by spending serious time improving your concentration. Your concentration gives you power, as whatever you choose to focus your attention on expands. If you focus fully on your lectures in the classroom you will pick up and absorb your lessons with greater ease.
If you bring these new retained lessons and your improved focus to your study sessions at home you will need to study less because you will remember your course lessons with ease.
Meditate Daily to Develop Hyper Focus
Meditation provides you with a vehicle through which you can improve your focus quickly. Meditating frequently helps you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings. Most people are not aware of their true nature, which is unlimited awareness which attends to thoughts, feeling and other objects. The meditation pros know that as you sit frequently and observe your thoughts you can move your attention to any object at will.
This means you can hyper focus on your lectures in the classroom as well as during your study sessions. You need to sit and meditate for at least 10 to 15 minutes daily to improve your focus during your studies. Find a quiet spot. Relax your body and mind and focus on your breathing.
When your attention wanders simply note the object of your attention and move your focus back to your breathing. This is how you learn to shift your concentration at a moment’s notice. Sit each day to speed up your concentration skills.
Do One Thing at a Time
You need to let go of the idea that you can study and watch TV at the same time, or that you should listen to the radio for some background noise while you study. This is a massive mistake that only increases your study load in the long run. Remember the fact that where your attention and energy goes, grows. If your attention is focused on doing two things at once, like listening to the TV and studying your lecture notes, you will take twice as long to retain your studies. If you shut off the TV you will pick up your study sessions in half the time.
You cannot do two things at once, even if you seem to be able to multi-task. This is a false idea as you can only think one thought and feel one feeling at a time, so focus on doing 1 thing at a time when you study and your study time will be lessened.
Get at Least 8 Hours of Sleep Each Night
Most students are known for not getting enough sleep, trying desperately to cram in study sessions and staying up late to finish what they need to finish before exams. This is silly and counterproductive. Imagine a sponge that soaks up enough water until it becomes fully saturated. At a certain point the sponge can no longer soak up any more water. A student who does not get enough sleep will have a tough time trying to retain even a bit of more study materials, because your mind will wander, or you will forget what you just reviewed.
Do yourself a favor. Get at least 8 hours a sleep each night and you can easily improve your focus and retain your study materials with greater ease. Rest up, wake up a little bit later and more importantly go to sleep earlier to retain your study materials fast.
